image compressionHey, what’s up, guys? It’s Grayson from LeadCadence.com. I want to share with you a tool that I’ve been using lately for some of our web development projects. What the tool does it allows you to reduce the file size of the images that you’re going to be using on the web without degrading any of the quality of the image. Why is that important?

When you have images on your website, any time that somebody goes to visit your website, when their browser is loading your website it has to load all those images, all the graphics, all the fonts in order for them to be able to see your website. The bigger those images are the longer it’s going to take for them to download. Why is website speed important? Companies like Amazon monitor this stuff really closely, and they found that a .1 second speed increase of their website translated into a 1% increase in revenue. If you follow that out, for them, if they can increase their website speed by one second that’s a 10% boost in revenue. That’s pretty substantial.

The nice thing is that there’s simple image compression tools out there to allow us, a small business, to be able to do the same thing to give our customers a better experience, to make our website load faster, and hopefully that translates into more dollars because people aren’t getting frustrated waiting for it to load and things aren’t working right. It’s just a better experience all around.

Let’s hop in and I’ll show you exactly how this thing works. The program is called Lossless Photo Squeezer. It does exactly what the name says. It allows you to squeeze the app losslessly so that reduces the file size without impacting quality. I have a couple test images up here. We’ll just blow these up. We can see on here I took a bunch of screenshots. They’re all around 600 kilobytes, 400, 500. Then we’re going to run them through this squeezer and see how well we can do.

I’m just going to drag and drop all of these. Looks like it’s practicing. It looks like we got anywhere from a 26% to a 36% decrease in file size for each of these images. If any of these images were on your website that’s going to mean that they’re going to take 36% less time to load because they’re that much smaller. The nice thing about this is that now instead of having to go in and rename all these files now that they’re different, all I’m going to do is just click this export all button and I’m just going to replace the originals. Now all these files that show up in my folder, we can see that now there’s the smaller file size. I don’t have to go in and rename them and go through that hassle. Now I can upload them to the website, do whatever I want with them, but they’re significantly smaller than they were.

That’s it for now. There’s a link below for the iTunes store if you want to check it out this tool for lossless image compression. It’s a great buy.
