Google ScamHey, what’s up guys, it’s Grayson from LeadCadence.com, and welcome to another episode of Frequently Asked Questions Friday. In this week’s episode, we’re going to be answering the question, “How do I avoid being part of a Google scam?”

This actually comes from a number of questions I’ve been asked recently, like, “Hey, are those automated calls actually from Google?” Or, “Do I really need to claim my listing? I just got a phone call and somebody said that my listing isn’t claimed yet.”

A number of these things have popped up recently, and if you’re the one that answers your business phone number, you’ve probably got these automated calls as well. I did a little research to find out what Google’s official stance was on these topics. This is from Google’s own frequently asked questions section on their website.

This is how they answer it … In regards to Google telemarketing calls, Google says, “Watch out for parties calling and selling services claiming to have a special relationship with Google or claiming to be Google. Often, these parties are telemarketers that are not affiliated with Google and are trying to leverage the Google brand to sell your business some type of online service.”

They continue to say, “Keep in mind the following: Google does not place robo-calls.” So if you’re getting automated calls that sound like messages or, “Hey, this is a Google specialist, your listing isn’t updated,” that’s not Google; that’s a telemarketer.

They go on to say, “Google does not call to update your front-page listing or ask you to claim your free website.” Again, if you’re getting automated calls asking you to do these things, that is not Google and it’s probably not a Google partner either. It’s probably a telemarketer.

Lastly, they say, “Google does not charge for inclusion in Google search or Google My Business.” Those are two products that Google has, the Google search results, which are the organic search results, and they also have the Google My Business section of their website, which allows you to upload your business so that it shows up on Google Maps.

I’m going to put a link in the show notes to this page on Google’s own website that covers the telemarketing scams. It also has Gmail update phishing scams, AdSense scams, anything that has to do with Google that doesn’t quite sound right, you’re able to go here and check out to see Google’s official position on these different topics.

If you got something out of this or maybe it helped you avoid a scam at some point in the future, leave me a comment, like and share this video. Thanks for watching, we’ll see you next week.
